The castle Odescalchi is today a protected monument of culture. The castle is an impressive building developed on the foundation of the court of the King Nicholas of Ilok from the 15th century. The emperor Leopold gave away Nicholas’ court with the whole landed estate which occupied the greater part of Syrmia at the time to the Pope Inocent XI Odescalchi, i.e. to his nephew, prince Odescalchi as a recompense for his merits in the liberation of Ilok from the Turks.

It is situated at the elevation, above the Danube River, in the old part of Ilok, opposite the church of St. John of Capistrano.

The castle has had different uses throughout its history, and today it houses the city museum and the city gallery. In addition, there are important archeological finds in front of the castle.

The Castle Hotel Odescalchi is a catering establishment, within the Old Castle, consisting of a restaurant and company-owned appartments of the firm Iločki podrumi.

The restaurant has a seating capacity of 300 and a terrace of the same capacity. We serve the specialties of our region along with the traditional meals as a part of our rich gastronomical offer.

There are separate accomodation capacities consisting of 32 beds close to the castle.

Both the castle and the medieval nucleus of the town of Ilok are a part of a project of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, that is named "Reconstruction, research and restoration of the sites in Vukovar-Vučedol-Ilok area."
