President of the Republic of Croatia in Ilok Cellars

On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the international recognition of Croatia and the 20th anniversary of the end of peaceful reintegration, President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović visited on 15.01.2018. the city of Ilok and its most significant sights.

In the Museum of the Town Ilok was organized the reception for the Diplomatic Core on which the President emphasized the importance of this part of Croatia and its influence on the peaceful reintegration process.

After the Diplomatic Core, all the participants went to the Old Cellars where they were welcomed by the top wines of the Ilok Cellars and tambourine music, and later visited the oldest and most awarded wine cellar of Croatia, The Iločki podrumi Old wine cellar from 1450, under the leadership of Karmela Tancabel – Counselor of the President of the Management Board for Marketing and Exports, led on English language.

During the tour, the majority owner of Ilok Cellars Mr. Juraj Mihaljević, gave the President 1997 archive wine Traminer, which was the first wine preserved in the Archives of the Old Wine Cellar after the Homeland War.

After visiting the Cellar, the party continued with a glass of wine and tambourine music, with which the President sang.

This will, for sure, for all who have witnessed this special occasion, remain in s great memory. Moments that were full of emotions and showing both way respect and recognition for inhabitants – citizens who returned after the last war to this most esternly located town in Croatia, with special respect to our owner, Mr. Mihaljević with words of appreciation for all what has been done and achieved since he came to run the estate and renewing these historical wine cellars of Croatia, to be discovered by passionate wine travelers from all parts of the world, bringing awareness of the existence of this  the amazing story that is an important, yet undiscovered  part of the Old Wine World history.

This all was a gesture as special thanks for being a positive example of success, achieved through hard and dedicated work, driven by his vision, mission and passion for wine and the potentials and beauty of this unique landscape. Despite all difficulties he was submitted to in the past 15 years he continued to invest in vines, state of the art technology to increase quality of our wines in each range, motivating and supporting dedicated employees, reconstructing historical venues and building new facilities to develop destination wine tourism and continuing the story that has been written here over centuries with a new chapter. He is the one who makes us all believe in a better future of this region, in sustainable life and development of Ilok, the most sternly located town of Croatia, standing proudly  on the right bank of the beautiful blue Danube.
